Because most of the time, advertising is related to art, here is a good example, you can see the pictures of the new advertising campaign for Louboutin shoes. (Winter 2011)

Obviously, we can compare those pictures to the Renaissance paintings of James McNeill Whistler, Georges DeLaTour, François Clouet...

Let's focus on what the brand Louboutin wants to say : First of all, the shoes are the symbol of beauty, beautiful women like them, and they show them as a special accessory. Then, one of the models carries the shoes on a tray, makes me think about people in jewelry store who bring you the necklaces, earrings, and rings on a tray to not damage them.

So what shoes mean for you ? For me, I think it is an accessory, but for Louboutin it is a special one, shoes are the symbol of feminity, beauty, power, greatness... Looking at those models who represent famous characters of the history we can understand the Louboutin shoes have a strong value, the shoes are made for women to let them think they have found a balance between smart and sexy, they help them to feel as powerful as men, shoes let women think they are tall, they have beautiful legs and they are proud of themselves with their lopesided, (indeed, all the shoes showed in the picture have extremely huge high heels...)

Anyways, I don't understand why Louboutin made a case about the black emancipation, okay black women can also afford Louboutin shoes because they are not slaves anymore, but what is the point of the picture ? the woman in the picture has an expression really depressing, its is like she says : " look at me, do I have a face and a look I can wear Louboutin ?" I just think the people who created the campaign made a mistake about this picture...

And you what do you think ?

Advertising campaign : Levi's "Go Fourth"

Well, ... I've read the comments about this video on youtube and it is qualified, some people think the spot is just great, really well filmed, the shots are beautiful and the message impacting, and strong. But, for others it is just another commercial to increase Levi's identity, have new consumers, let them think levi's is the famous jeans bran which promote strong and important messages...

Here it's an message about enjoying life, showing American spirit, kinda religious too :

" your life is your life don't let it be clubbed into dank submission. be on the watch. there are ways out. there is a light somewhere. it may not be much light but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances. know them. take them. you can't beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. and the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. your life is your life. know it while you have it. you are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you."

If I have a levi's jean, I will live my life as I will die soon lol... That is a bit too much for me, okay I can consider my levi's jean as my best pant, something that have a value, but, that's it, ... Here we are talking aout the corporate message, the identity of the brand, how it can feel good to be part of the people who have a levi's because you feel so cool when you have one, I think it is a social symbol of appearance, how you look tell you how you are nowadays and people pay a lot of attention to appearance details, so to my opinion, the short film has some points for the brand, visually talking, talking about the message, and people who can identify to this spot ...

The text is borrowed to the American Poet : Charles Bukowski in his poem named : "The laughing heart", the song is "Anjos" by Julianna Barwick.

As a conclusion I will say the commercial is showing the young lifestyle that means full of dangerous things, rebellious challenges, it is a call for anarchy , can be inspiring but not for teenagers lol...

Movie Review : "Restless"

restless-2.jpg

Touching, moving, sad but beautiful movie. I won't say it was the best of all movies I watched this month because it was a bit depressing too... The plot : This strange teenager, Enoch" of the aristocracy, is spending all his time to funerals, looking at death people, walking in cemeteries... It is a weird guy until we discover his past : his parents died in a car accident when he was younger, since then, her auntie have raised him. He doesn't go to school because he has been expeled of high school. So he met Annabel ( Mia Wasikowska) at a funeral, then the woman follows him everywhere and they start to be friends, and lovers. The thing is Annabel has a brain tumor and she has 3 months left before she will dye... The yound couple get attached and in a certain way, Annabed finishes to relieve Enoch from the loss of his parents and make him feel happy and free, but at this moment, she dies.

The movie was a little bit too long, lots of passages with "hiroshi" (the ghost friend of Enoch) I was really bored at this time, I understand we need to see why he talks to his ghost but they are so many moments ... It was a little bit heavy. Talking about the performance, Henry was good as the main character but Mia was great, we will all agreed I think :)

As a conclusion : I loved the shots, the decor when it is snowing with the train, the river... beautiful landscapes, It makes me feel exciting about winter, even when it is 32°C on October 2nd!
